I am only a poem in the body of a woman.

- Alexandra Vasiliu

My writing is autobiographical; even my works of fiction have pieces of me woven into the pages, but lately I haven’t had much to give. Between working a full time job, editing my books, and managing mine and my dogs health conditions so much of me is being given away to the mundane tasks that make up my life. When I sit down to write I haven’t been able to immerse myself in the way that I’m used to. I haven’t seen myself in my characters laughs or in the pink hues described in my poems. I stare at a blinking cursor willing the words to come but the only thing that I can type is gibberish.

Every creator goes through periods like this, where the urge to create is there but nothing is being created. Creating is a deep rooted part of my core and without this outlet I’ve slowly started to go mad. To save my sanity I’ve been experimenting with different avenues of inspiration. In my last poetry post I wrote a poem inspired by a prompt and in this poem I put myself in another’s shoes. I thought about what it would be like to be a mother to two kids under three and the pressure she would feel to be everything for everyone. It’s not a long poem but hopefully it resonates with those in a mothers shoes.
